ABOUT REGION
Cliffs north of the ancient city of Falassarna, Crete, Greece
In the northern part of the bay you find the remains of the ancient city of Falassarna. Named after the nymph Falassarni, the city had its peak in the Hellenistic period with an own coin at this time. British travellers who discovered the harbour and the ruins of the ancient city explored the area in the late 19th century. Since 1986 have started excavations in the area. The findings are exhibited in the Museum of Kissamos.
