Falasarna Beach

Falassarna is famous for its spectacular sandy beach and crystal clear water. Falassarna bay has been awarded as the best beach of Crete and one of the best beaches of Europe in the past. The sand is lightish, which makes the water colour tropical. The bay is divided in several beaches by sand dunes and rocks. The big beach of Falassarna, also called Pachia Ammos, has a length of 1 km and width of 150 m. This beach hosts the most visitors of the area, but because of its length it never seems crowded.

Elafonisi Beach

Elafonissi is located at the Southern end of the west coast of Crete. Actually, Elafonissi is an oblong peninsula that often breaks in two parts by water giving the impression of being a separate island. The seawater in front does not exceed 1m depths, so it is like a small lagoon with pink sand taking its colour from millions of crushed shells. Elafonissi with its sandy beach and turquoise water reminds of the Caribbean.

Balos Lagoon

Balos is another amazing beach in the municipality of Kissamos, located at the Northern end of Gramvousapeninsula. The lagoon is famous for its shallow, turquoise waters, the exotic scenery and wild natural beauty.
You can reach Balos by car over an unpaved road and then walking down to the lagoon or by ferryboat from Kissamos port. Also, from Falassarna, boat trips are provided.
During summer, thousands of people visit Balos. If you wish to avoid the crowd go early in the morning or late in the evening.

Not far from Elafonissi is another amazing beach called Kedrodasos what means cedar forest. The beach is full with juniper trees, mistakenly confused with cedars, and sand dunes. You can lie in the shadow and enjoy crystal clear water. The beach is outlying and you need to walk to find it, but it’s a marvel of beauty.
